A second monitor may be added using the port as #2 NOTE: Connects a display device that has a USB Type-C connector, providing DisplayPort output. If the monitor does not accept DisplayPort connection, then an adapter for DisplayPort to HDMI is needed. I'm not an HP employee. Did this message answer your question?

I have been experiencing the same issue : second display was detected before and it suddenly stopped working, it shows no signal. I tried the following : - swaping the hdmi cables: it displays on the tv, but stopps recognizong the monitor. The docking station is working fine for everything EXCEPT a 2nd external monitor. I am however able to plug the 2nd monitor's HDMI cable directly into my laptop and that solution DOES work, however it's really not optimal.
